It’s really hard to believe that I am now the mother of a one year old.  A happy, bright, and vibrant one year old who loves sucking her thumb, snuggling her blankets, reading books, eating mandarin oranges, and playing in the bath.  I love watching my daughter grow and discover the world around her, but I’d be lying if I said that I wasn’t a bit sad about how quickly she’s transitioning from baby to toddler.

Just this past Saturday, my little girl turned ONE and we threw a party!  Pretty, pink, and frilly…a whole lot like my baby shower last year.  It’s no secret that I really love to bake and make desserts…so bake and make desserts I did!  The week leading up to the party, I baked cakes, cupcakes, cookies, whipped up frosting, made chocolate abstracts and chocolate plaquettes,  made coconut panna cotta and mango desserts, assembled fruit cups…and decorated our house a couple of days before the party while my baby napped.

People often say that a first year birthday party is more for the parents than the baby, but to that I say, “Heck yes I’m gonna celebrate my baby’s birthday *and* one year of successful parenting!”  Malia may not remember the party, but she’ll see photos, and videos, and a whole lot of love in the eyes of her mommy and daddy who are so very proud of her.

We receive hundreds of real-life wedding submissions each issue and of those, only 7-10 of the very best are chosen for publishing. Therefore, we truly believe the selected stories are the best-of-the-best. These weddings are a sum of all of their parts and as such, the awards are a celebration of all of the creative professionals whose work was featured in each story.
